I was shooting sunflowers one day and was just getting to leave when I noticed a butterfly on one of the nearby plants. I thought to myself, "there's no way I can get this butterfly on one of the sunflowers, right? I mean...no way." And I almost got back in my car. But I thought, what the heck, I'll give it a shot. Every time I'd start to get close, the butterfly would take off. Then it hit me...I didn't want it ON the flower, I wanted it ABOVE the flower. So I started to follow it through the field...it would land, and then take off. Land, take off. We played this game for about 50 yards, and with every landing and taking flight, I changed my angle up to get lower. Then I had to change my shutter speed to not get a blur of the wings. After walking nearly 3/4 through the entire field, I FINALLY got the shot I had in mind, and it couldn't have worked out any better. The butterfly, framed by the tree and the flower, with puffy blue skies as a backdrop. A combination of luck, timing, and a little bit of work went into this one!
